Dear Narendra Modiji,
Kerala is the State with highest mobility as people travel to and fro a lot, particularly for work. The roads are congested and it is not feasible to widen all the roads. Therefore, for the core routes, Railways have a significant role.
I am happy to inform you that the State is forming a Joint Venture [JV] with the Railways for undertaking rail development works projects specific to Kerala. The Rapid Rail Transit System between Thiruvananthapuram and Chengannur is proposed as the first important project of the Joint Venture Company. What is intended is to improve the signalling system, introduce new rolling stock and convert all Railway Crossings into Rail Over-Bridges. This would facilitate running of trains both ways at very short intervals, covering a stretch of 125.5 kms. – optimizing to the maximum, the use of the existing lines.
The detailed Project Report of the Suburban Rail Project, prepared by M/s Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation Limited, has been submitted to the Railway Board. The project cost is Rs.3063.97 crores. The project has huge benefits for commuters, especially those moving to Thiruvananthapruam for work.
May I request you to get this announced in the Budget?
Shri. Narendra Modi
Hon’ble Prime Minister of India
