Letter to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister (Parambikkulam-Aliyar Project water issue)

Dear Thiru Edappadi K. Palaniswami,

I write this to draw your kind attention to my D.O letter of even number dated 08/02/2018 regarding the release of the legitimate share of water to Kerala under the Parambikkulam-Aliyar Project Agreement.

I am sorry to state that the situation has not changed till date. The failure to ensure discharge of 400 cusecs at Manacadavu would result not only in drinking water shortage but also in lack of water for irrigation. The release of water on 11/02/2018 and 12/02/2018 was 80 cusecs per day only. This would result in imminent drought and loss of paddy crop in Chitturpuzha valley.

Hope you have already recovered from the cataract surgery. I would like to have a meeting with you at Chennai at an early date, so that the issue relating to the release of water from Manacadavu weir can be sorted out, to mitigate the hardship to the farmers of Palakkad. I shall be grateful if you could kindly indicate an early date and time, convenient to you for the discussion.

With regards,

Yours sincerely,

PINARAYI VIJAYAN

THIRU EDAPPADI K. PALANISWAMI
The Chief Minister,
Government of Tamil Nadu
