Malampuzha
– The Politics
Sri. V. S. Achuthanandan represents Malampuzha constituency. He
is serving the constituency for the second consecutive term now.
Both times, he defeated Sri. Satheesan Pacheni of the Congress (I).
While he won by 4,703 votes in 2001, the margin increased to a whooping
20,017 votes in 2006.
Malampuzha is considered as a communist stronghold having large
agrarian population. The left front did not lose the seat on any
occasion except in 1965. E. K. Nayanar became the Chief Minister
of Kerala in 1980 for the first time after winning from Malampuzha
where he won again in 1982. With Achuthanandan’s ascendance
as Chief Minister, Malampuzha has also made history by becoming
the sole constituency in Kerala to produce two Chief Ministers for
the state.
