Strict enforcement of traffic rules to ensure safety: CM
Thiruvananthapuram 14-02-2012: All departments concerned have been given instruction to strictly enforce traffic rules to ensure safety of commuters in the state, said CM. He was presiding over the meeting of Road Safety Authority here today.
CM said that review committees at district-state level will be formed to reduce the number of accidents. The members of the committee at state level include Road Safety Commissioner as Chairman, IG Traffic Wing and Chief Engineer of National Highways. At the district level, members would be Police Superintendent as Chairman, RTO and PWD Executive Engineer.
The district level committee should visit the spot of the accident if death is reported and should find out the reason for the accident. They should hand over the report to the district committee, CM said.
CM also directed officials of traffic- police to take strict action against drunken driving and against those who travel without wearing helmet.
Only be enforcing traffic rules can the rate of accidents be reduced in the state, said CM.
CM said that traffic awareness classes would be made mandatory in schools up to 10th standard from next academic year onwards.
Road campaigns would be held across the state by students. CM also assured Police, PWD and MVD departments all amenities required for reducing accidents in the state.
CM said that Sky walks and underpasses would be constructed at busy areas.
Minster Adoor Prakash, DGP Jacob Punnoose, and other officials participated in the meeting.
