Keralites should become self reliant: CM
Thiruvananthapuram 14-02-2012: Keralites should become self reliant in all fields, said CM. He was inaugurating the media seminar organized by Farm Information Bureau. The developments in farming sector can contribute for the development of the state. Kerala has made several achievements in the development sector. The Government is making elaborate plans for further developments. But only with the development in agriculture sector can Kerala straighten its economy, said CM.
CM said that apart from the cultivation of rubber the state has got no achievement to highlight in the area of agriculture. Kerala now has to rely on neighboring states for vegetables, rice and even coconut. This situation needs to change badly.
The centre has granted several projects for developing agriculture in the state, said CM. Kuttanad and Idukki packages, Vidharbha model package for Wayanad, Palakkad, Kasargode and kole farming in Thrissur are projects sanctioned by the centre. Keralites should work hard to attain self sufficiency, said CM.
Apart from vegetable cultivation, stress should be given for Milk, Egg and Meat production. Media has also got a key role to play in developing agriculture, said CM.
CM also stressed the need for starting Farmers Club at School level. People also should work for taking Kerala ahead in agriculture, said CM.
Minister K P Mohanan, K Muraleedharan MLA, K R Jyothilal and Principal Farm Information Officer A M Sunil Kumar participated in the meeting.
