Jalanidhi to ensure water supply to 10.8 lakh people

Thiruvananthapuram 15-02-2012: Government of Kerala and World Bank has signed the agreement for the second phase of Jalanidhi project that would ensure water supply and sanitation service to almost 10.8 lakh more people in the state.

The project to be implemented across the state is worth Rs 761 crores. The Second Kerala Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project (KRWSS) Jalanidhi II will assist the State government in setting up and implementing a statewide sector development programme that will bring better water supply and sanitation service to the people.

The project would provide financial and technical assistance for setting up rural water supply schemes in about 200 Grama Panchayaths. The project will also provide targeted assistance to several beneficiaries among tribal population in 22 Grama Panchayaths.

 The agreement was signed by Venu Rajamony, Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance on behalf of Government of India, V J Kurian, Principal Secretary on behalf of Governemnt of Kerala, A K Singh, Executive Director on behalf of KRWSS and Hubert Nove- Jossernad, Operations Advisor on behalf of the World Bank in the presence of CM and Minister Kunhalikutty.
