Total protection for fishermen; Job for Valentine’s Wife

Thiruvananthapuram 22-02-2012: In the wake of the firing from the Italian vessel that claimed the life of two fishermen, CM said that total protection would be ensured for the fisher folks who venture into the sea. He was briefing the cabinet decisions here.

Wife of the deceased fisherman Valentine would be given job in Fisheries department, said CM.

CM said that coastal security would be reviewed as the feeling of insecurity looms large over the fishing community. For this a high level meeting will be convened by CM. Coast guard, Navy, Police and Fisheries department and ministers concerned will participate.

After this meeting a meeting with the fishermen’s organization will be held, said CM. CM said that the Governement has taken this issue in a most serious manner. Central Government has given its full support and it is due to the intervention of Minister SM Krishna that the arrest of the Italian sailors was registered. CM also said that the Government will follow the law and would make sure that justice is provided.

Laloor Waste Problem

As a solution to the issue of waste disposal at Laloor, it has been decided to segregate the waste and to use it for the construction of bunds as part of developing Kole farms. PWD has been entrusted to submit a detailed project regarding the same. Funds for this has been sanctioned, said CM.

Solatium

Solatium of Rs 3 lakhs each has been sanctioned for the families of the persons who died in a tragic accident on the Erattupetta- Vagamon route. Rs 25,000 have been sanctioned towards the treatment expenses of seriously injured. Rs 10,000 will be given for the others under treatment.

CM said that Crash Barriers will be erected on this stretch to reduce the accidents.
