A consensus on ensuring government quota for merit-based admissions was reached at the all party conference convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Monday. The meeting called for adopting measures to ensure social equity in the professional education sector in the State. All the parties expressed full cooperation for the efforts of the government to ensure social equity.
The Chief Minister said he would be convening a meeting of self-financing medical college managements on Wednesday and self-financing engineering college managements on Thursday to discuss the issues and seek an agreement.
Further actions would be taken after consultation with Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan and the former Education Minister M.A. Baby.
