Government will initiate stringent action against financial frauds, increased road accidents, suicide and sex scandals that mar the image of the government, said CM while talking to the representatives from print, and visual media here at
Media has got an important role to play and should help the government to improve its governance, he said. All the suggestions of the media are welcomed by the government. The media can criticize the government, point out its mistakes and support the government in its endeavors. The criticisms and suggestions would be accepted by the government without discrimination.
Since this is a government that takes decisions quickly there is a possibility of making mistakes. It is the onus of the media to point out those mistakes, he said.
A police – media co-ordination committee would be soon formed. The representatives from the print and visual media would also be included in the committee. A consensus would be reached regarding the advertisement card rate. The possibility of reintroducing the old method of inviting Government tenders would be checked. All the implementable recommendations of the V.K Narayanam Committee should be submitted to the CM, after consultation with the media.
Giving accreditation to the journalists who work under contract basis will be discussed. CM also said that the working process of press academy would be modified. Decision in issuing more number of entry passes for legislative reporting would be taken after consultation with the Speaker, he said. The PRD clip file of the programmes of VIPs would be made available to the media. CM said that the Grand Kerala Shopping Festival would be conducted in its entire splendor and also requested the support of the media.
Steps would be taken to release the pending amount of advertisements. Inclusion of the representatives of small scale newspapers in press accreditation committee would be considered. The decision regarding the formation of a welfare scheme for the media personals would be decided after discussing with the persons concerned, he said.
Minister for Information and Public Relations, Shri. K.C Joseph, Secretary K.J Mathew, Director M. Nandakumar were also present.
