Thiruvananthapuram:Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inaugurated the Ocean State Forecast and Fishery Information System for Kerala.
The state-of-the-art device would be able to predict marine-related natural disasters tsunamis, tidal waves and the direction of tides nearly three days in advance.
The Centre for Earth Science Studies has set up this state-of-art system.
This system is placed at a depth of 30ft under ocean near Valiyathura. The information about the ocean would be conveyed through digital display boards kept at coastal areas and near religious institutions, via SMS, through radio and television channels.
It would be beneficial to fishermen, residents of coastal area and also the Coast Guard personnel.
Kovalam MLA Jameela Prakasam presided over the function. Dr Shashi Tharoor MP, Mayor K Chandrika were also present at the occassion.
