Thiruvananthapuram 22-07-2011: The state aims to obtain a production of over 5,000 tones of fish by extending the area of fish farming in paddy fields to 10,000 hectares this year, said CM. He was speaking at a meeting of the Marine Products Export Development Authority.
CM has informed that a joint committee of different agencies such as Agriculture, Rural Development, Fisheries, NABARD and MPEDA will be formed regarding fish farming in paddy fields. The chairman of the committee will be the Agriculture Production Commissioner. A detailed report needs to be submitted within a month.
CM has directed to take necessary action regarding the situation of not obtaining clearance from Agriculture Department to start fish farming in paddy fields that are not suitable for agriculture.
Officials of Fisheries, Agriculture, MPEDA and NABARD were also present.
