Kochi:Steps would be taken to make the north-south high speed railway corridor a reality, said Oommen Chandy. He was inaugurating the preliminary works on the Kochi metro-rail project at Ernakulam town hall.
“This should be seen as a big leap and a proud achievement of the state. The success of the metro–rail is sure to give a hug boost for the basic infrastructure development, especially when you take into account the stagnant state of transportation infrastructure in Kochi for decades”, commented CM.
The 25-km-long metro would begin at Aluva, pass through Kaloor, M.G. road, S.A. Road and end at Pettah, near Tripunithura.
Minister for Industries P. K. Kunhalikutty inaugurated the construction of the Salim Rajan overbridge proposed near the KSRTC terminal.
Minister for Civil Supplies T. M. Jacob inaugurated the renovation work of the North overbridge.
Minister for Excise K. Babu inaugurated the distribution of title deeds for those evicted for the project and Minister for Public Works V. K. Ebrahim Kunju distributed financial aid for those displaced.
