Thiruvananthapuram 02-08-2011: As a solution to the waste disposal of Thrissur Corporation, it has been decided to follow the Laloor Model Project for Solid Waste Management (LAMPS). The meeting convened by Chief Minister has decided to complete the work of this project at the earliest.
The government is committed to solve the issue of waste disposal in Laloor, said CM and added that he would visit Laloor soon.
Until the completion of LAMPS, garbage from other parts of Thrissur town will not be brought to Laloor. The corporation will provide land at two areas instead of the land that was marked for the plant at Sakthan Thampuran Nagar.
The agitation at Laloor is because of the fact that garbage from Thrissur Corporation is dumped here. Decision has been taken to remove the garbage that has piled up at Laloor.
Two suggestions came up as an answer as where to dump the garbage. One was that the garbage can be used to fill the gutters in NH where work is progressing and the next was to use the garbage to fill the quarries where water accumulates.
CM will discuss with experts and a decision regarding this would be taken soon.
Minister P.K Kunhailkutty, Mayor I P Paul, Thrissur Collector P. G. Thomas, Adv. Therampil Ramakrishanan MLA, City Police Commissioner P Vijayan, Agriculture University Vice Chancellor K. R. Viswambharan, Suchitwa Mission Commissioner Dileepkumar were also part of the meeting.
