Thiruvananthapuram 09-08-2011: It is the aim of the Government to provide all possible medical help through Cochlear Implantation scheme to all those who suffer form hearing and speech imparity in the state, said CM. He was speaking at the meeting on Cochlear Implantation here.
A 15 member committee will be constituted and will be entrusted to prepare details regarding the implementation of the scheme. They will submit the report in two weeks.
Six doctors, four Government representatives and a representative from Social Security Mission and Benny Behanan MLA and three Ethnic Committee members will form the committee.
All the Medical Colleges and District Hospitals will be equipped with Audio testing devices, said CM. The Government has several goals regarding Medical Service in the state. This is the first leap towards achieving the goals.
World Class facilities in the field of health are available in Kerala but only to the wealthy. This Government aims to provide excellent medical service to all.
For this a Comprehensive Health Insurance project will be implemented soon incorporating the Cochlear Implantation Scheme to it. Since the operation has to be carried out in children below the age of three, Government will not wait to implement Cochlear Implantation Scheme the till the launch of the Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme, said CM.
CM congratulated K.J Yesudas for pointing out such a scheme to the Government. Yesudas said that some of the privileges that his grand daughter gets should be shared with some hapless childrens too.
Only one out of thousand children need Cochlear Implantation Surgery, pointed out Social Welfare Minister M.K Muneer. He added that if the treatment is successful in children above three years of age, they will also be considered
. Ministers Adoor Prakash, M.K Muneer, K.M Mani, Benny Behanan MLA and other officials participated in the meeting.
