Transparent Governance in Kerala, a matter of discussion in America

Thiruvananthapuram 09-08-2011: The transparency initiatives that the Government has implemented in Kerala has become a matter of discussion in America, said Reetha Joe Louis, Special Representative for Global Intergovernmental Affairs, US Department of State.

This has become big news in America as the live web cast of CM’s office was acclaimed by The New York Times; she said adding that this is a model for the whole world should experiment.

The American Group headed by Reetha was having a discussion with CM here today.

CM informed the group that a tourism show will be conducted by Kerala in America. The elected representatives of America and India will meet and exchange ideas. This would help to make governance more transparent.

CM pointed out that some major problems that Kerala faces are waste disposal Skill development. Kerala is a place having very high density of population. Though many waste disposal projects were implemented a successful model could not be found out, said CM.

Though Kerala society is highly educated, the state lags behind in skill development. In many such areas the experience of America can be emulated.

Global Intergovernmental Affairs Deputy Director Rhonda.S.Binda, Political/Economic Officer of Chennai U. S Consulate Mathew Beh, Political /Economic Specialist Finny Jacob, Dr. Jay Gore were the group members.
