Thiruvananthapuram 19-09-2011: The foundation stone for the rail coach factory at Kanjikode will be laid on October 22. This was announced after a high level meeting with the Union Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi convened by CM.

The land for rail coach factory has been given free of cost by the state. The study report for constructing coach and wagon component factory at Cherthela will be submitted in October 15.

The major decisions in the meeting are

A Chief Administrative Officer will be appointed as nodal officer. This is prior to the formation of a special railway zone.

Nilambur Road-Thiruvananthapuram Central Rajya Rani Link Express will start from October 23

Mangalore-Palakkad Intercity Express will start from October end.

The railway electrification of Thiruvananthapuram-Kanyakumary section will be completed before December 31.

The commencement of Kanniyakumary-Thiruvananthapuram-Dibrugarh Vivek Express.

Union Minister of State for Railways, K. H. Muniyappa, Union Minister for Power K. C. Venugopal, Union Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies K. V. Thomas, 21 MP’s from the state and 14 of the cabinet colleagues of CM, Chairman of Railway Board Vinay Mittal, Member Sanjiv Handa, A. P. Mishra, Advisor Safety Sunil Kumar, General Manager, Southern Railway Deepak Krishan, attended the meeting.
