New Delhi; 23-09-2011: The Centre has given approval for the much awaited Kochi Metro rail project. The Centre agreed to be an equity partner for the metro rail project modeled on the Chennai Metro. The State will have 15% stake each in the metro.
The two day Visit of CM and his colleagues was a huge success, thanks to the meticulous homework done by the team.
The Centre has also given approval for starting an IIT in the state. The IIT would come up in the land of Instrumentation Limited in Palakkad. This project has been included in the 12th Plan. For the IIT around 300-600 acres of land needs to be acquired. CM hopes that the institute would come up next year. The proposal for Indian Institute of Science and Technology in Malappuram has also been included in the 12th Plan.
The team of Ministers met as many as 17 Union Ministers during its two day stay in Delhi.
The state has also got clearance for the Vizhinjam Port Project.
Union Governemnt cleared the allocation of 15 Kg of rice to all APL card holders. Agreement has also been reached to inaugurate HEL Electric Machine Ltd.- a joint venture between BHEL and KEL in Kasargod. This is as part of a steel plant that is to be set up in the district.
Apart from this assistance for Cochlear Implantation scheme for the hearing impaired will be provided by the centre. Centre has agreed to raise the additional Indian Reserve Battalion and the establishment of Kerala Anti- Narcotic Special Action Force.
Rs 1048 crores have been sanctioned to carry out relief, rehabilitation and repair work due to flood havoc in the state. A central team will visit the state to assess the damage caused to properties and other infrastructure in the recent rain in the state.
Centre would provide Rs 10 lakh each for the resettlement of tribal people from the dense forest areas of Wayanad. A State Environment Impact Assessment Authority and State- Level Expert Committee under the Environment Impact Assessment notification 2006 will also be constituted.
The centre has appreciated the state’s Asraya Project and expressed willingness to start the same at the national level.
