Thiruvananthapuram 29-09-2011: The one year Action Plan of the Government has got the approval at the all party meeting convened by CM to discuss the issue of waste disposal. Extensive projects for solid waste treatment will be implemented in all Panchayaths and Corporations from October 2nd.
The pyrolysis technique will be used which to burn the garbage to produce electricity. This novel technique will be implemented in Trivandrum and Kochi Corporations in the first phase.
The Action Plan at the state level will be inaugurated by CM at Kottayam and the district level Action Plan will be inaugurated by Opposition leader at Palakkad.
There is no model for effective disposal of waste in the state. The Government is trying to bring in such a model. The new plants at Vilappilsala and Brahmapuram will use the pyrolysis technique. Here solid waste will be burned at 1700 degree Celsius. Electricity will be produced from the vapours using generator. In this method there is no scope for pollution. 1KW electricity can be produced from one tonne of garbage.
The Government plans implement law for the Flats, Hotels, and Hospitals etc. to have their own waste disposal mechanism. Subsidy will be given to construct biogas plants at homes. E-toilets will be placed in public places. 75% subsidy will be given to Panchayaths to construct waste treatment plants.
CM said that a special committee will be constituted to present a detailed report regarding the effective disposal of plastic wastes.
