Drinking Water: 40 lakhs sanctioned for Puthupalli constituency

Thiruvananthapuram 18-10-2011: Rs 40 lakhs will be sanctioned from the MLA funds to eight Panchayaths in Puthupalli constituency to strengthen the water distribution system in the constituency, said CM. He was speaking at a meeting convened to review the drinking water projects of the constituency.

CM instructed to use the fund in such a way as to effectively tackle the water scarcity that might occur during the next summer season. The fund will be allotted in such a way that each panchayath would get a sum of Rs 5 lakhs.

Minister P J Joseph has instructed to submit a report regarding the enhancement of different water distribution projects in the state before the summer season.

It has been decided to replace the damaged pipes from Mutholi to Malayirithi in Akalakkunom Panchayath at a cost of Rs 1 crore. With this the water distribution to Kozhuvanaal and Akalakkunom panchayaths would become normal. A project of Rs 4.5 lakhs has been sanctioned to replace the damaged pumping line in the Elappani- Vazhepparambu road.

Water Authority officials have informed that they have received Rs 32 lakhs to replace the damaged pipes near Methracheri. Rs 26 laksh have been sanctioned for constructing a water reservoir at Lakatoor.

CM gave instruction to the water authority officials to strengthen the water distribution in Meenadom panchayath by including include it in the Kottyam Augmentation project. A special tank will be built at Meenadom. A new treatment plant will also be set up Thiruvanchoor. The Water Authority officials said that steps are being taken to implement new project at a cost of Rs 3.75 lakhs in Manarkad panchayath.

It has been decided to sanction Rs 3.5 lakhs to reconstruct the water reservoir at Thotakkadu in Puthupalli constituency.

In order to improve the distribution of drinking water at Puthupally, pumping will be done in two shifts at the Thalappadi and Vennimal pump houses.

A comprehensive drinking water project will be given shape for Vakathanam Panchayath. The investigation will be completed before November 30 and the report will be submitted. Existing small scale water projects will be improved. 16 pumps will be replaced with the help of NABARD. The meeting has decided to identify the pumps having no water supply to take necessary actions.

A project worth 22 lakhs will be implemented at Kozhimala to distribute drinking water with the help of different agencies.

Water Authority Managing Director Ashok Kumar Singh, Panchayath Presidents and other elected representatives participated in the meeting.
