Thiruvananthapuram 20-10-2011: The act of taking up 450 acres of land from private parties in Karunagapally, Panman and Alappad villages for the Indian Rare Earth Limited (IREL) to carry out black sand mining will be re-examined, said CM. The problems faced by the people here will be solved at the earliest.
He was speaking at a meeting convened here attended by Minister K C Venugopal, C Divakaran MLA, political leaders and other elected representatives.
CM said that the final decision regarding this will be taken only after consultation with the Industries Ministry.
Government had taken this land in 2007 by a special order. As per this order the owners of the land are not in a position either to carry out transaction of this land or to get a bank loan on this land.
The elected representatives pointed out that since no proper mining is carried out in these land, the move to acquire more land should be dropped. They also appealed CM to cancel the registration of this land done earlier.
