Sand Mining: Land owner’s problems will be addressed

Thiruvananthapuram 24-10-2011: The high level meeting chaired by CM has decided to take immediate steps to solve the problems confronted by those who had given their land to IREL (Indian Rare Earth Limited) for lease to carry out sand mining.

IREL has the right to carry out only mining. The news that IREL has got total right over the land is baseless. The AG, Registration has been instructed to submit a report based on the enquiry conducted. Action will be initiated after getting the report, probably to be tabled within two days, said CM.

CM has instructed the officials of IREL to bring in changes if it is found that the documents prepared in connection with the lease agreement denies transaction of any kind in the leased land.

The IREL management has said that they are willing to buy the sand that is dredged from the Neendakra port. Consensus has been reached to give the sand that is dredged to IREL and ilmenite to KML.

Ministers Shibu Baby John, K Babu and Kunhalikutty participated in the meeting.
