Agricultural lands, not be proclaimed as Ecologically Fragile Lands: CM

Thiruvanathapuram 03-11-2011: Agricultural lands will not be proclaimed as Ecologically Fragile Lands, said CM and added that notification regarding new Ecologically Fragile Lands can be made only with the consent of a newly formed committee. He was speaking at a meeting convened here.

A committee headed by District Collector and Divisional Forest Officer will check the land to be notified. MLAs and Panchayath Presidents of respective areas will also be members of this committee.

Time to submit the application for the owners of the land, already proclaimed as Ecologically Fragile Lands will be extended. Law will be amended to seize the agricultural land now under the ownership of the tribunal.

Out of the 1225 hectors of land notified as Ecologically Fragile Lands in Idukki, Wayanad and Palakkad there has been complaints regarding 634 hectors.

Ministers K.M Mani, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, P J Joseph, K B Ganeshkumar, P K Jayalakshmi and others participated.
