Thiruvananthapuram 18-11-2011: The meeting convened by CM has decided to give direction to carry out the reconstruction of roads that are digged for laying pipeline as part of the Drinking Water Project.
The next 500 meters of road can be digged only after reconsting500 meters of road that has already been digged to lay the pipeline. New tenders would be invited for reconstructing roads.
The most severe problem that the people of Alappuzha faces is the shortage of clean drinking water, said CM. Diseases spread as a result of the water getting contaminated. The Centre has given around Rs 150 crores to resolve the drinking water issue. National highway authority will be approached to lay the pipeline from Ambalappuzha to Thotapally.
CM has instructed to take necessary steps to complete the project before September 2013. A committee will be formed with District Collector as convener to resolve the problems that arise while laying pipelines.
