Govt not to encourage liquor consumption: CM

cm-cab14 Thiruvananthapuram 23-11-2011: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here today that  the Government would not do any thing to encourage the consumption of liquor in the State. Speaking to the media after the cabinet meeting the CM said it had already been decided not to open any more liquor out lets by the Beverages Corporation and hence forth three-star hotels would not be granted bar licenses in the State.


Regarding the Mullaperiyar issue the CM said that the anxiety of the State has been conveyed to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Water Resources Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal. A special cabinet meeting will be held today itself to discuss the Mullaperiyar and Wayanad issues. The State is ready the bear the cost of the construction and maintenance of the proposed new dam, the CM said.


The Cabinet today sanctioned nine new posts for the proposed Forward Community Development Corporation. Sanction has also been granted for 477 temperory posts as part of the implementation of the 1076 crore Jalanidhi project in 200 grama panchayats. The cabinet also cleared the proposal for the revision of the pay scale of the doctors in the health services. The Government would provide a one-time grant of Rs 5 lakh to the Satyan Foundation in Thiruvananthapuram and a decision to this effect
has been taken in today’s cabinet meeting. The faculty at the Institute of Management in Government will get pay and perks as per the UGC norms, the CM informed.
The Cabinet has also decided to give a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each to all the 25 students who took part in the 3 films that got recognition in the Children Film Festival held at Hyderabad.  The police out post at Kadampuzha will be upgraded as a police station, the CM said.
