New dam the only solution: CM
Thiruvananthapuram 09-12-2011: Construction of a new dam at Mullaperiyar is the only way to resolve the Mullaperiyar issue, said CM. He was speaking while moving a submission in the Assembly today.
CM said that it was unfortunate that Tamil Nadu had not taken into consideration the anxieties and fears of the people of Kerala. Kerala wants to maintain the cordial relationship with the neighboring state. CM reiterated the stand of the state that TamilNadu will continue to get the same amount of water even after the construction of a new dam.
The discussion continued for three hours in the Assembly, starting at 9 am. An unanimous resolution was passed that seeks the construction of a new dam at Mullaperiyar, reducing the water level to 120 ft and wiping the fear from the mind of the people.Mullaperiyar Assembly resolution
