Thiruvananthapuram 13-01-2012: Sreenivasa Ramanujan Institute for basic sciences would be set up in the state for basic scientific research this year itself, said CM. He was speaking at the State level inauguration of National Mathematical Observance Year here today. CM said that Government gives utmost priority for mathematical education and research. The steps taken by Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment in developing technical research is indeed praiseworthy, said CM and added that mathematics plays an important role right from computers to space research.
Several campaigns, speeches and competition for students are arranged as part of the programme in the state. The Malayalam version of the book on Ramanujan written by Robert Kanigel “The man who knew infinity” will also be published.
K Muraleedharan MLA presided over the function Sashi Tharoor MP, Kerala University Pro Vice Chancellor Dr J Prabhash, Kannur University Pro Vice Chancellor Dr A P Kuttikrishnan, Kerala School of Mathematics Director Prof. M Manikyan, Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment executive Vice President Prof. V N Rajasekharan Pillai were also present.
