Ensure clean drinking water and proper sanitation: CM
Kottayam 14-01-2012 : All steps should be taken to ensure clean drinking water and proper sanitation, said CM. He was inaugurating the second phase of Jalanidhi at Kadaplamattom near Pala.
Scarcity of clean drinking water prevails in the state. Lot of infectious diseases is now spreading in the state, mainly due to the unhygienic practices followed by the people.
Jalanidhi is a rural water supply and sanitation project, with the cooperation of local bodies, NGOs, Panchayathi Raj Institutions and people’s committees.
PJ Joseph who presided over the function said that Jalanidhi project would be completed in 224 panchayaths within 2 years. The project worth 1022 crores would get financial support from World Bank if it is implemented in all panchayaths in a time bound manner, he said.
Mons Joseph MLA, Panchayath President Radha N Nair, Collector Mini Antony and representatives of different parties were also present.
