Thiruvananthapuram 13-02-2012: The high level meeting convened by CM has decided to accelerate the Government’s effort for gaining the status of classical language to Malayalam.
Chief Secretary K Jayakumar has been entrusted to expedite the process. The meeting also discussed on establishing a Malayalam University that gives prime importance for Malayalam literature and regional culture.
Noted poet ONV Kurup said that the aim of the University should be to kindle the interest in Malayalam language in the future generations. Sugathakumari suggested that the works of the Malayalam Mission be strengthened. Now the Mission focuses on the education of children. It should also come forward to arrange classes for the NRKs and their children.
Suggestion came up in the meeting that computer language that supports Malayalam language should be developed.
Minister K C Joseph, M M. Hassan, George Onakkur, Akbar Kakatil, Puthussery Ramachandran, K L Mohanavarma, Prof Nedumudi Harikumar and several others were also part of the meeting.
