Thiruvananthapuram to Mangalore in 3 hours: High Speed Rail

Thiruvananthapuram 13-02-2012: Traveling is sure to get faster in the state. The traveling time from Thiruvananthapuram to Mangalore will be reduced to just 3 hours with the High Speed Rail Corridor becoming operational by 2020.  Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation has been named the nodal agency for the High Speed Rail Corridor, said CM. He was speaking at the All Party meeting convened here to discuss the same.

It has been proposed to use Japanese technology. DMRC has also zeroed in on this technology. The Government will discus the possibility of getting Japanese aid for this project.

DMRC was entrusted to study the feasibility of the project and has been directed to prepare a detailed project report. CM said that the Government will go forward with the project.

CM said that the railway has favoured the High Speed Rail Corridor from Thiruvananthapuram to Mangalore. KSIDC has been handed over Rs 20 crore for the project that was sanctioned in the 2009 budget.

Union Finance Ministry needs to give clearance for the project said CM added that for such a massive project only below 1000 acres of land needs to be acquired.

CM also requested the co operation of all political parties to make this project a huge success.

Kerala High Speed Rail Corporation CMD T Balakrishnan detailed the project paper. It is proposed that the project would become operational by March 2020.

Minsters K M Mani, P K Kunhalikutty, Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan, C Divakaran, Planning Board Member C P John and several others participated in the meeting.
