RAPID CONSOLIDATION OF IT INDUSTRY IN THE STATE

Developments in the IT sector in the State affirms that Kerala's efforts to catch up with other important centres of Information Technology development like Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai. The industry is not only consolidating earlier gains but making further expansion with the best sort of infrastructural facilities and a responsive workforce.

Untiring efforts are being made for rapid consolidation of IT industry in the State. The gains already made are being expanded further. New premises are being opened and synergised with the existing IT centres. Development of phase III of Technopark is kickstarted. The Infopark at Kochi is also undergoing rapid expansion. The new centres to be opened are proposed to be dovetailed to either Technopark or Infopark. The I.T. park proposed for Kundara, with the title Technopark, Kollam will function under Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram and its CEO. The proposed IT parks at Cherthala, Amabalapuzha and Koratty to be known respectively as Infopark Cherthala, Infopark Ambalapuzha and Infopark, Thrissur are to be operationalised under Infopark Kochi and its C.E.O.

The proposed IT park at Kozhikode is conceived as an independent entity and it will be called Cyberpark, Kozhikoe. The I.T. parks at Kannur and Kasaragod on the anvil when materialised may be placed under Cyberpark Kozhikode. The IT centre at Kasaragod, is proposed for Cheemani, which is only one hour dive from Mangalore city.

Meanwhile acquisition of 100 acres of land for the third phase of Technopark at Thiruvananthapuram is under completion. Besides the construction of infrastructure for companies making a ring road within the park campus and expansion of the club with more rooms, building a conference hall etc are to be taken up. Measures for the establishment of Technocity in Thiruvanathapuram are proceeding in top gear. Acquisition of 507 acres for the project is almost completed. Steps are afoot for pulling up other infrastructural facilities.

SEZ status for more IT venture.

Central Government has given consent for establishing four special economic zones in the State for IT ventures. These zones are to be established at Kasaragod, Thaliparamba, Cherthala, Ambalapuzha. Construction of building for the ventures at these centres will be started during the current year itself. These centres are to be developed under Kerala State Information Technology Infrastructure Ltd. Conferring of SEZ Status to these centers will help to create further strides in IT sector in the State. The State Government will invest upto Rs. 500 crores in these ventures, which are expected to provide 10,000 job opportunities in three years.
