Initiative for Effecting Amendments to IT Act – 2000

As part of its 20th anniversary celebrations Centre for Development of Imaging Technology took the initiative for getting the amendments to IT Act 2000 effected to combat the ever increasing number and froms of Cyber Crimes. C-DIT organized a seminar on Cyber Crime and Cyber Law and Cyber Security at Thiruvananthapuram on February 8th and 9th with this perspective. Hon’ble Justice of the Supreme Court V.S. Sirpukkar, Shri. N.R. Madhava Menon and experts from legal fraternity, cyber science and law enforcement participated in the seminar. One recommendation of the seminar was to hold a Workshop on the subject and accordingly a Southern Regional Workshop on Cyber Law: Issues and Challenges in Enforcement was held at Mascot Hotel, Thiruvananthapuram on June 27 and 28. The workshop was inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala Shri. V.S. Achuthanandan on the first day and the valedictory address was rendered by Ho’ble Union Minister for Law and Justice Shri. Veerappa Moily.
The Workshop held by C-DIT in association with Kerala State Legal Service Authority gained utmost significance with the participation of five Hon’ble Judges from the Supreme Court of India, Hon’ble Chief Justices of the High Court of the four Southern States and other Hon’ble Judges from there. Cyber experts from all over the country and senior prosecutors and law enforcement officers also participated. It was strongly felt in the deliberations that the increasing number and emerging new forms of Cyber Crimes could be held at bay urgently by implementing the 2008 amendments to the IT Act 2000. The Hon’ble Union Minister for Law and Justice Shri. Veerappa Moily declared during his valedictory address that the amendments to the IT Act 2000 would be published soon. .
