200 Small IT Parks

The roadmap for decentralised development of Information Technology in the State has been laid by the State Government a few months back. The plan is fructifying at a fast pace. The first of these small IT parks is to come up at Kadakkal and Perinad in Kollam district in November. This was announced by the Chief Minister while inaugurating a new electrical sub station at Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram on 8th September 2009. Two hundred small IT parks would come up across the State. It is going to be proved small is not only beautiful but profitable. Each park is designed to provide jobs for 50 to 100 people. Besides, these parks would help to extend the development of the IT sector to rural areas. After the IT park at Perinad, decentralised parks would come into being at Koratty in Thrissur district, Eramam in Kannur and Cheemeni in Kasaragod. The development of IT in the State is as fast as one would have desired. The Cyber Park coming up at Kozhikode is going to catalyse the development of IT sector in the Malabar region. The Techno city project and the next phase of development of Technopark is going to generate 2,00,000 jobs in the capital. The IT companies in Kerala could tide over the period of recession with support given by the government by reducing rental rates to only 50 percent. The growth rate of software exports from Kerala touched 45 percent during the recession period against a national rate of 15 percent. IT exports grew five-fold over the last three years in Kerala, while the floor space in IT buildings also registered a four-fold increase.
