Letter to Union Minister of Railways

Dear Sri. Suresh Prabhuji,

I am thankful to you for your letter calling for feedback and response on the proposal of the Ministry of Railways to tap the real estate potential of the railway stations and airspace in the State and elevate them to the international standards.

It is a welcome move since the initiative will give a face lift to the existing railway stations in the State most of which are in deplorable conditions though there is ample scope for development. Govt. of Kerala would like to extend all the support and co-operation to the Minister of Railways in the matter.

Organisations like CIAL, KMRL, KSIDC, Technopark and ULCS have contributed tremendously to set up infrastructure projects in PPP Model. Their services can be avail for the face lift of the existing railway stations in the State. Likewise, the structural development of the railway stations with the financial and technical assistance of the above institutions or similar partners/investors in and outside the country including NRKs and NRIs, is possible. This would ensure a fair and transparent process of the implementation of the proposed schemes in a time bound manner. Adequate central assistance is also expected for the materialization of the objective.

In this regard, the State Government would once again like to offer all possible help to the Ministry of Railways for facilitating ground level needs for the proposal. Also, the State government would be happy to nominate the Secretary, Transport Department as Co-ordinating Officer in this matter.

Yours sincerely,

Pinarayi Vijayan
