Letter to Union Minister of External Affairs

Dear Smt. Sushma Swaraj ji,

It has come to my notice that 72 Indians, including Malayalees, are in severe distress in a labour camp near Exit 8 at Riyad in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. They have not received their salary for more than a year. As their Iqama has not been renewed since August they are unable to even go out of the labour camp. They are residing in the labour camps without adequate air, water or food. They are under threat of being evacuated from their rooms as their company has not paid the rent on time. Moreover, they are dependant on the food and water provided by social workers and well wishers for their existence.

They were brought to Riyadh from Dubai for the Riyadh King Abdullah Economic City Project. Though the workers have complained to the Indian Embassy, it seems no action has been taken yet. I request you to kindly intervene in this matter and make the necessary arrangements to rescue them and bring them home safe and sound.

Yours sincerely

Pinarayi Vijayan
