Letter to the Prime Minister (Sabarimala)

Dear Shri. Narendra Modiji,

Greetings from Kerala!

Sabarimala, the famous temple of Lord Ayyappa on the hills of Western Ghats in the Pathanamthitta District of Kerala is a very unique pilgrim centre. Perhaps, this is probably the one of the largest annual pilgrimages, where more than four crore pilgrims come to worship in a short period of two months- mid- November to mid-January every year. It is also very special in that it is open to people of all castes, creed and religion.

A meeting of the Ministers in charge of Temple Administration in the Southern States of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, held today to review the arrangements for the current pilgrim season starting from mid-November unanimously felt that Sabarimala should be declared as a National Pilgrim Centre, as this would help a holistic development of the region. It was also decided to approach the Centre in this regard.

I write this to request you to consider this request favourably so that it will become possible to offer better basic facilities to the pilgrims in terms of infrastructure and also help the local people in terms of employment opportunities.

With regards,

Yours sincerely,

Shri. Narendra Modi
Hon’ble Prime Minister of India
