The fisherfolk of Kerala, now fondly called as the ‘Army of Kerala’, for the unparalleled support they rendered during the rescue operations during the recent Kerala floods has another reason to rejoice. 180 of them have been handed over their recruitment orders stating their appointment to the coastal police force. With this, another promise that was given to them by the Left-led Kerala government as part of the Okhi rehabilitation package stands fulfilled. This recruitment drive provides opportunities for the dependents of the victims of the Okhi disaster and also for women from the community. They will be used for operations including rescue operations in the sea. The ones who received the appointment order shall be undergoing a four months training programme at the Thrissur Police Academy before joining the Force.
