Government is committed to achieving 100% electrification by March 2017. Preliminary figures state that 2.5 lakh houses in Kerala need electricity. According to the current norms, benefactors have to bear the cost. Special attention will be given to those who cannot so as to ensure that those who are financially and socially backward will also enjoy the benefits of electrification.
High powered committee under the Chief Minister will ensure the flawless implementation of the project. District level supervision will be made by the minister in charge of the respective districts and MLAs will supervise the project at the constituency level. The project will be decentralised by engaging local monitoring committees. Solar power and micro grids will be set up in remote and forest areas which may face difficulty in pulling cables for electrification.
