Letter to the Prime Minister : Kochi Metro

Dear Shri. Narendra Modiji,

I have great pleasure in informing that the Reach-I of the Phase-I of the Kochi Metro Rail Project is completed and is ready for commissioning. The final safety clearance from Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety is expected by second week of May 2017.

Kochi Metro Rail Project is a joint venture with equal equity participation of Government of India and Government of Kerala. The Phase-I of the Kochi Metro Rail Project sanctioned by Government of India in July 2012 envisages a route length of 25.612 kms from Aluva to Petta on a fully elevated Metro viaduct with 22 stations. The sanctioned cost of the project is Rs. 5181.79 crore. The project is partly funded with the external assistance from AFD France and domestic loan from Canara Bank.

The Reach-I of the project from Aluva to Palarivattom with a section length of 13.4 kms and 11 stations is fully completed. The construction work of the remaining reaches of the project is progressing very well and it is expected that the project would be completed soon.

This project is a stellar symbol of equal equity participation by State Government and Government of India reflecting the spirit of cooperativé federalism in bringing quality infrastructure for urban mobility.

The whole State is eagerly waiting for the commissioning of the project and to see the dream come true.

I would therefore request you to inaugurate the commissioning of the Kochi Metro project at Kochi, and to dedicate the project to the state and the nation, during the second fortnight of May, 2017. I am writing separately to the Union Minister for Urban Development to grace the occasion.

The State is eagerly looking forward to the inauguration of the project by your good self.

With regards,

Yours sincerely,

Shri. Narendra Modi
Hon’ble Prime Minister of India
